By The Pigskin Of Our Teeth, Week 3: Numbers and Names

The Browns roll the dice and Brissett finds Cooper in the back of the end zone.

PICKENS! That's the Odell Beckham Jr. catch. Touchdown Harris after the flag is on the Browns.

They're gonna call Cooper out of bounds here. What was THAT? Touchdown Njoku. CLANG! Bet the Browns lose by one now. Trubisky: "Fine. I'll do it myself." But I think this is gonna be marked short. Al: "You might try a 62-yard field goal indoors, but not out here in Cleveland." 14-13 Steelers at halftime. Whoa! Touchdown Chubb and it's 23-14 Browns. Maybe they won't blow it.

This Steelers offense isn't working. Yep, still plenty of time to blow this. Steelers correctly try the field goal with 1:51 left down nine. Browns had 12 men on the field, making it 4th and 1 and I actually wondered for a second if they might fake it. I need psychiatric help. Onside kick goes out of bounds. AL: "I'm not writing a finish to any game these days." Wait, what? "Chad Johnson Presents the Player of the Game With New Madden Rating?" I HAVE to see this. Why are we bothering with this spot? This lasted so long the Browns ended up punting with nine seconds left. Pitchy pitchy woo woo turns in to a Browns touchdown. Al: "There's no extra point, but that may be meaningful to some of you."

Chad's out here actually announcing live adjustments to Brissett's ratings. This is wild. He's a 72 OVR now! (Browns 29, Steelers 17)

Signal Finder: PHI @ WSH, JAX @ LAC, DET @ MIN (end), GB @ TB

An unlocked Curtis Samuel (which the Panthers could never quite do) could make this Commanders offense dangerous. Sweat ends the first drive with a sack. Camera guys seem a step slow in the early going. This man's name is "Wildgoose"? OK then. I hadn't yet mentioned that this Commanders offensive line isn't great and the Eagles have three sacks in a row. Now a false start. Smith back to return this particular punt. Gets 13 on the return. Graham comes in with a sack to end this Commanders drive. Hurts with a deep lob to Smith for 45! The challenge flag is on the field but the Eagles get the play off too quickly. They have replay of this, of all things, and the flag did come out after the snap. Oh man, I think they would have won that challenge.

The St-Juste kid has been good for Washington so far. Field goal is good. They get to Wentz AGAIN and he fumbles! Eagles have it!

Screen to Goedert and that's a touchdown. Wentz finally just takes off out of the pocket but Edwards lays him out. Covey muffs the punt and falls on it at the 5. Eagles go no-huddle and get to the red zone in five plays. Fourth and 1 and they go for it. Jet sweep to Pascal? Don't like that. And it didn't work. Hey, the ticker finally showed up. Wentz fumbles again but recovers this one. Schlereth wants the Commanders to shorten Wentz's dropbacks.

A Wildgoose and a Cheeseman. I have questions that I'm not sure have answers. Smith! Brown goes after the ball and gets it. Touchdown. SO many Alabama guys in this game. The Eagles did this at the end of the first half last week, too — started in a bad spot and worked their way downfield. Smith doing his best Brown impression for 41. Play clock's frozen? Now the game clock's frozen. Eagles go for it after a Hurts keeper on third down doesn't work, and Smith goes up and gets the touchdown! 24-0 at halftime.

CALCATERRA FOR 40. I'm erect. Smith has more yards than the Commanders. They finally find McLaurin deep. Bad drop by Dotson on third down, who's been really good so far as a rookie. First field goal is taken off the board after an Eagles personal foul. Gibson loses six yards to end the third quarter. Wentz scrambles to the 2. Shovel pass to Logan Thomas is STOPPED. Safety as Boston Scott had no chance. Eagles getting sloppy on the back end. Another sack. And ANOTHER one on 4th and 22. NINE now as Edwards gets in on it. That's the most Wentz has been sacked in his career, and the previous mark (8) happened against Washington. Late touchdown but the two-point try is intercepted by Epps. This will NOT be a Scorigami (which Adam Amin name checks), but it's only the second time this score has happened. (Eagles 24, Commanders 8)

That's a late hit on Tua and his head hits the turf hard. Is this a possible concussion?

And now we've got the Dolphins punter kicking a ball off the up man's butt. Harlan: "It gives a new meaning to kicking you know what." (Dolphins 21, Bills 19)

So Rihanna is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, according to... well, her.

What was the penalty on Chris Jones What did he actually do? I saw it and I still don't know.

(Colts 20, Chiefs 17)

Goff throws up a prayer that Metillus intercepts after just missing the previous one. That's rough. (Vikings 28, Lions 24)

Look, is Herbert playing or not? Someone fire a cannon in the harbor? What was that? Herbert IS playing. Jamal Agnew's been a top-five Jaguar ever since he got there. Interception on a bad throw from Herbert. Jags settle for another field goal. 6-0. Herbert gets hit and fumbles... and it's Jaguars ball. Lawrence rolls right and finds Zay Jones for a touchdown. Herbert looking much better on this drive. Touchdown Williams. This Evan Engram catch in the end zone is being looked at. I think his right foot's off the ground. Call REVERSED. Pederson doesn't go for it and instead sends the field goal team out. It's good and it's 16-7 with 1:04 left in the half. Herbert throws a bomb on the run to Guyton for 55! Field goal barely makes it. James Robinson snaps off a 50-yard touchdown run.

Touchdown Kirk! Engram catches the two-point pass. Jags kind of pouring it on here, which I didn't expect.

And it's not 2020 Doug Pederson, who may have been the worst head coach in the NFL that season, and that was a year where Adam Gase, Doug Marrone, and Vic Fangio still had jobs. I don't see a reason to keep Herbert in. (Jaguars 38, Chargers 10)

Nice hat, Erin. It's HOT down there.

Mike Evans is suspended this week along with Godwin and Julio Jones being hurt. Cole Beasley already in on this fourth and 1 for Tampa, who is in the shotgun. Quick pass to Brady converts it. Kyle Rudolph's still in the league? Field goal is good. Touchdown Doubs after a big catch by Cobb. (Doubs recovered his own fumble earlier to keep the drive going.) No way the Bucs had 84 scouted. Slant to Lazard is good for six. Packers doing whatever they feel like so far. PROTECT THE FOOTBALL. Jones fumbles at the 1.

And then the Buccaneers give it right back. 14-3 Packers at halftime. But they won't have Jaire Alexander, who's out with a groin injury. Gage fumbles ands the Packers recover. They don't do anything with it, but the punt pins the Bucs at their 1. The hell was that, Aaron? Really bad interception there. Bucs only get three out of it, though. Both offenses have ceased to function. Brady takes off. Look at this old man try to run. Such a labored gait. And it's called back because of a hold. Aaron Jones gets stonewalled. So much for field goal range. Packers lose Fournette twice on this drive. Touchdown Gage! Olsen calls it a "second window" throw. They just got that play off. They line up for two and they do NOT get this one off! Now they have to go for it from the 7 and the pass is broken up! I don't understand how either of those situations happen. The game clock's not running! You don't have to bleed the play clock! (Packers 14, Buccaneers 12)

A ROGUE DRONE? Really? One of these teams needs to sign it. (Falcons 27, Seahawks 23)

The tides, they move. So does Jeff Wilson, who's starting for Elijah Mitchell. Kittle back. Touchdown Aiyuk. Broncos aren't doing much so far. Well, that just changed with a big play to Sutton. Miscommunication between Wilson and Jeudy on that one. McManus hits from 55. Uh-oh, Deebo's down. He's up, but he got piled on on that play. That's a good punt and a good bat out of the end zone. It didn't hit the end line that I can see. The Broncos challenge the spot, and they'll probably lose. Russ with the casual flip to Melvin Gordon while being tackled. NBD. Blitz swallows him up. FUMBLE but the Broncos can't do anything with it and have to punt. They weren't even 10 yards from a field goal! Safety! Garoppolo pulled an Orlovsky! Then the pass got intercepted but it won't count. AND Trent Williams is now down.

Tirico read this on air. Wilson misses Jeudy after a decent drive. McManus MISSES right after Tirico notes that there's only been one 7-5 final. 3:45 left in the third seems early to be bringing that up.

The 49ers' offense has also mostly sucked tonight. 0-for-7 on third downs after that failure. Oh, this is where Brian Griese landed. I forgot. The 49ers don't have an offensive coordinator? Maybe they should get one.

Gould hits from 51, making it 10-5. Jeudy drops a deep ball that replay shows was tipped just before it got to him. Wilson scrambles but comes up short. Broncos challenge, saying that he extended the ball to the first down marker. Call STANDS. Sick catch by Juszczyk on the sideline while being blanketed by Chubb. That foot control! Wilson finds Kendall Hinton downfield. He scrambles for 12 on 3rd and 8.

Same. Touchdown Melvin Gordon! Garoppolo gets intercepted with 2:06 left!

Broncos force a punt. It's muffed! Fortunately the 49ers keep it because it would have been over otherwise. Garoppolo gets sacked for 12 yards. Then Jeff Wilson fumbles and the Broncos recover. That's it, thankfully.

Padres-Rockies was 13-6, for comparison. (Broncos 11, 49ers 10)

Bella Cosal. Thanks, Joe. Gonna look her up RIGHT NOW. No Dalton Schultz for the Cowboys, and Gallup won't be back tonight, either. Anthony Barr's a Cowboy? What? Gano tries a 47-yarder but it's blocked. So the first two drives start off well but ultimately lead to nothing. Noah Brown with some big catches on this drive, including a nice leaping one early on. Cowboys look disorganized and Elliott gets two after having to rush a play. Field goal is good.

Matt Brieda's a Giant? What? Gano ties it at 3. Jason Peters in at left guard for the Cowboys, and Pollard makes a big run to the left side. Drive ends with another field goal. Aikman on David Sills wearing No. 13: "He will not be confused with Odell Beckham, Jr." Zeke gets 27 on a toss on 3rd and 12. OK then. Lamb drops a touchdown. Cowboys pass on a 58-yarder and line up to punt, then take the delay of game penalty. I don't understand that. (Moving yourself five yards back on purpose, not passing on the 58-yarder.) Kenny Golladay is under the doghouse. Lawrence sacks Jones. Jones escapes another sack and finds... Golladay, of all people. But it's coming back.

Meanwhile, Trayvon Diggs is down. And he's down because of the flag, which was Shepard jumping into him. Nobody in the booth likes the call, but if Diggs had done that to Shepard, it'd be a penalty, too. Now the clock stops because the chains are in the wrong place. Giants go for it but Golladay can't bring it in.

Cowboys get Maher set up for a 59-yarder, but he misses left. Buck's talking to Jimmy Kimmel, who's in New York this week. Blitz gets to Jones after he picked up 12 yards on a scramble. Diggs misses a pick and Shepherd gets 20, but the Giants can't convert third down. Gano hits from 51. This game blows.

Now we've got offsetting penalties after a scuffle where Shepard came onto the field for no reason. Touchdown Barkley. "Hendershot?" What are these names this week? At least the offenses seem to be waking up. Touchdown Elliott. Wait, that's a penalty? That's stupid. Cowboys line up to go on 4th and 4 but the Giants call time out. Pass to Lamb is right at the sticks. Whoa! Lamb with a one-handed grab in the corner for a touchdown. This a fumble? Looks like a fumble. No challenge? You have to at least try, right? Mike McCarthy, everybody! Now it's 23-13 Cowboys. Eli's urging the Giants to go no-huddle. The Cowboys... go out of bounds? I'm not convinced that was intentional, as dude was in the air for a full second, but that's not ideal. They punt with 1:51 left. Giants' two-minute drill going poorly so far. Intercepted.

Shepard's on a cart? Jeez. Rough night for him. Oh God, there wasn't anyone near him and he just grabbed his knee. And now we got another scrum at the end of the game. (Cowboys 23, Giants 16)

By The Pigskin Of Our Teeth, Week 2: New Frontiers

FULLBACK RESURGENCE? This interception by Adderley is called back for illegal contact. That really should have been offsetting penalties. Touchdown McKinnon. What's happened to Staley? The old Staley wouldn't have punted here. Oh, well, the Chiefs are pinned at their own 8. It ultimately works, as the Chiefs can't do anything with it (An ad after a punt with 11 seconds left? Really?) and the Chargers take a 10-7 lead into halftime. They got Charissa Thompson and Tony Gonzalez for this? Mike Williams with a one-handed catch in the back of the end zone.

Signal's hanging up. That could be a potential long-term issue. Touchdown Watson! Great throw from Mahomes that looked like it was a little late. Kelce gets bodyslammed at the Chargers' 2 and the ball pops up afterwards. Isn't that a penalty? Chiefs... settle for three? 17-17 after 3.

99. YARD. PICK. SIX. How many Watsons do the Chiefs have? Herbert tried to sidearm that pass when he really shouldn't have. OK, so this one is Jaylen, a seventh-round rookie. Ouch, Herbert. Dude's been getting beat up all game. DeAndre Carter with a CLUTCH grab. Fourth and goal. You gotta kick this, right? I GUESS NOT. Touchdown Carter and Al's call is less than enthusiastic. Onside kick goes to... the Chiefs. (Chiefs 27, Chargers 24)

Signal Finder: NE @ PIT, CAR @ NYG, MIA @ BAL (end), TB @ NO (end), CIN @ DAL, ARZ @ LV (end)

THE CONFLUENCE. Patriots muff the pun and it goes into the end zone, there's a scramble, and the Patriots eventually come up with it for a touchback. So let me get this straight. Matt Patricia and Joe Judge are back in New England, and they're in charge of the... offense? "Senior football advisors", they're called. Meyers eating early. This is the first Patriots-Steelers game since 1998 without Ben or Brady. And...

Fumble? The Pats pick it up and not everybody's still with it. Touchdown? This'll get reviewed. And it'll come back -- Johnson was down. Bad read by Trubisky and Jalen Mills gets an interception off a deflection. Mac throws deep for Parker and guess who picks this one off. Trubisky gets sacked on third and 8. Field goal ties it. Pats get 24 on 3rd and 26. Agholor outjumps Weatherspoon and takes the ball away from him for a touchdown! MUFFED PUNT. Did that go off his helmet? It did! Harris cashes in the turnover for a touchdown. Trubisky finds Freiermuth in the back of the end zone to start the fourth. And then... nothing happens for the rest of the game. Seriously. The Steelers ran eight more plays after this. (Patriots 17, Steelers 14)

Lattimore and Evans get thrown out of a 3-3 game. Have they been clashing their whole careers? It feels like they have. That was... a tackle.

(Buccaneers 20, Saints 10)

FUMBLE ON THE KICKOFF RETURN. Giants start at the Carolina 22... and go three and out. Grand. PROTECT THE FOOTBALL. Giants going for it. Jones outruns Burns but still almost stumbles and barely gets to the marker. Burns DID trip him up, but not enough. Giants forced to settle for another field goal. Panthers finally put their own drive together only for a dropped pass on 3rd and 9 to end it. At least they didn't turn it over again. Another field goal makes it 6-6 with 56 seconds left. That near-pick by Luvu is why Jones's option didn't get picked up. Then David Sills runs his way out of a first down trying to get out of bounds. The half ends. Jones is completing passes to dudes I didn't even know were in the league. Drive ends with a touchdown and we're tied again at 13. McCaffery launches for 49. FIELD GOALS. Gano barely makes a 56-yarder to put the Giants back in front. The Panthers... punt? Really? (Giants 19, Panthers 16)

Is that Bateman catch-and-run why the Ravens were OK with getting rid of Hollywood? River Carcraft? That's a name? Tyreek sets some poor Raven on fire and we're tied at 35 as Patriots-Steelers ends. Lamar beats the blitz but throws it too far for Andrews. Tucker from 51 with 2:26 left. Chase Edmonds gets free and goes for 27! Dolphins call time. The Ravens' defense has been getting shredded this entire fourth quarter, it seems. TOUCHDOWN WADDLE! Ravens are fortunate to still have two time outs. Hail Mary falls short. (Dolphins 42, Ravens 38)

Wow. Let's all point and laugh at the Browns. (Jets 31, Browns 30)

Oh no. Lance is hurt and the cart's out. All of the Garoppolo decisions — saying "Lance is the starter next year"; trying to trade him when he was injured — were odd. And now he's back on a pay cut and leading a touchdown drive. Ah, there's the Geno Smith we've all become accustomed to. (49ers 27, Seahawks 7)

Cowboys make it look easy on the opening drive with their backup quarterback. That's not a great sign for the Bengals. POLLARD. Bell is adamant that he tackled him short of the goal line. That's CLOSE. They eventually overturn the touchdown call, making it first and goal. Pollard punches it in anyway. The Bengals turned over four-fifths of their offensive line and I'm still not sure it's any better. These dudes shouldn't be getting owned by Noah Brown. This is the second week in a row they've shown Jerry's wife Gene after showing a piece of art in Jerryworld. Fumble but Mixon outfights Parsons for it. Burrow sacked again.

Collins was better as a guard. Bengals add three. And three again. They recover a fumble but can't capitalize. Cowboys can't get a stop on the next Bengals drive. Touchdown Higgins! Then the Bengals get pinned inside their own 10 after a punt. This is some terrible playcalling by the Bengals down here. You gotta go down the field! Three and out. Why not take the holding penalty? It's two more yards and an automatic first down. That didn't make sense. Now the Cowboys are running outside runs? Didn't we just go over this? Maher on for a 50-yarder. It's hooking. THAT MADE IT? Dad: "Scrape the paint off that ball." (Cowboys 20, Bengals 17)

I'm not sure this is going to work. Not the Russell Wilson thing. The other thing. (Broncos 16, Texans 9)

We arrive here just as Kyler Murray scores. Conversion is GOOD and we're going to overtime. Harmon lays out Hollywood with a game-saving hit. Renfrow fumbles but the Raiders recover. Renfrow fumbles AGAIN? Murphy's got it! OH MY GOD. TOUCHDOWN CARDINALS.

What are they looking at here? That's a clear fumble. Wait... they're checking to make sure Murphy didn't pull a DeSean? It counts! Man, I'm even more glad that Mark Davis was in Connecticut for the Aces clincher instead of here for this debacle. (Cardinals 29, Raiders 23, OT)

None of this bodes well for the Bears. But they're finding success on the ground. Fields keeps it and scores! SAMMY WATKINS LIVES? Aaron Jones breaks through for a touchdown to start the second. Good catch by Equanimious but Fields was across the line of scrimmage. Cobb with a nice grab behind him to get a first down. Touchdown Jones. Bears are suddenly out of answers. Rodgers throws a rope to Lazard for another score. 24-7 Packers at halftime. Big run by Jones. Dillon fumbles and the Bears catch a break. They got a first down! Field goal is good. Bad snap! Packers lose 13 yards on that. Oh, man, it hit the motion man. I'm actually surprised that doesn't happen more often. The Bears have something on the ground tonight but they've been down so far they haven't really been able to go to it. I'm waiting for someone to knock the ball down when a runner, especially a QB, stretches the ball past the sticks while they're going out of bounds. And Fields does it again by the end zone pylon. The ball pops loose and the Packers say they have it. Officials confer and they call it a touchdown. They review it and pretty quickly correctly reverse the call and say he's short. Fields gets stuffed on a sneak.

New Bears coach Matt Eberflus clearly didn't get the "don't challenge spots" memo, since he's challenging this. Call STANDS. Wait, was that fourth down? Well, that explains why he challenged it. Packers take over. Tirico shouts out Tom Waddle as he mentions how Chicago talk radio will be all over this tomorrow. Tirico: "And Aaron Rodgers beats the Bears. What else is new?" (Packers 27, Bears 10)

No Gabe Davis for the Bills tonight. Josh Gordon's a Titan? What? False start on a punt? Titans are an irrelevant franchise. Lots of plugs for Vikings-Eagles upcoming. Bills line up on 4th and 1. Did the Titans jump? NOPE. Bills kick a field goal. Replay shows what the officials said: that the Titans defender never entered the neutral zone. Allen to Kumerow for 39, then Diggs for 16. Split screen as the Vikings kick off. Hooker can't corral the interception. Fourth and 1 and this time the Titans DO jump — but the Bills called time out. Touchdown Diggs. Bills have a player down. Cart's starting up. Oh, that's an ambulance. Didn't see what happened, but it's defensive back Dane Jackson, and that ambulance has to be giving people in Buffalo flashbacks to Kevin Everett. First half ends with a Tannehill sack. Flashback to Pats-Bills last year when Steve Young got blown off his chair and Mac Jones won going 3-for-6 passing. Diggs with another touchdown. Bills recover a muffed punt that goes off the returner's helmet. Field goal makes it 27-7.

34-7 after Diggs' third touchdown tonight, a juggling catch. Now we got a pick-six. That's it for Josh Allen tonight.

The Titans muff ANOTHER punt. Malik Willis in at QB for the Titans, and he may not get out alive. (Kid has a massive arm but isn't ready for more than mop-up duty this year.) Now HE fumbles. This was a wrecking.
(Bills 41, Titans 7)

Vikings win the toss and defer. Eagles come out throwing. Everyone's been open so far. Even Zach Pascal. Really? Hurts keeps it himself and scores. Slay on Jefferson and he breaks up a third-down pass. Vikings go three and out. Fumbled snap but Sanders saves it. Devonta Smith gets called for a pick play, negating a third-down conversion. Aikman hates the call. Hurts gets sacked to end the drive. Reagor fields the punt and gets flattened. This commercial block's been like 10 minutes long. Is something up at the stadium? Oh, I just flat-out missed the Vikings series. That's the third illegal man downfield penalty against the Eagles tonight. Bomb to Watkins for a touchdown. Someone screwed up. Cousins dives for a first down but comes up short.

SVP doing game breaks! Vikings have woken up. None of these plays involve Jefferson. Irv Smith Jr. with an easy touchdown off a play fake. Eagles get bailed out of a rough series with an illegal contact call. The stars are OUT tonight: Dick Vermiel (who's getting his Hall of Fame ring at halftime), Bradley Cooper, James Harden, and Quinta Brunson (and they didn't show Bryce Harper.) Can't put a guy wearing 98 in coverage. Scott with a nice pickup. Hurts rolls right and keeps it. Goedert keeps blocking. Is he gonna score? He is! Irv Smith drops a touchdown. Video of Hurts in 2019 squatting 600 pounds, which Buck tells us is about the weight of "a grizzly bear or an empty vending machine." Weird drive right now — under a minute left, the Eagles got a first down on two runs, and now it's like they're trying to score again. Now they're in Vikings territory with a time out left. They got into field goal range! It's good. The Vikings seem to be shortening the routes for Cousins. Buck points out that Thielen has yet to be targeted in this game. Interception! Slay undercuts the route and gets the pick, then gives the ball to Harden.

Aikman puts it on Jefferson, saying he shouldn't have let Slay undercut the route. The Eagles' receivers have had so much space to work in tonight. Buck says Eagles radio man Merrill Reese told them at halftime that the first half was as good QB play as he's ever seen. Aikman: "He's pretty much seen them all." Field goal is BLOCKED and the Vikings return it to the Eagles' 30. Is this four-down territory? Then Maddox intercepts Cousins and I guess we'll never know. Buck and Aikman are openly mocking all the illegal man downfield calls. Now the Vikings can't catch anything. Cox forces a Cousins fumble on 3rd and 10. Travis Kelce in the stands! Gainwell can't handle the pass and Jordan Hicks comes up with the interception. Vikings with first and goal at the 9 with 7:30 left. Slay almost has another interception as Cousins threw up a duck under pressure. Then he gets the next one!

Sweat finally gets a sack that'll stand. (Eagles 24, Vikings 7)

By The Pigskin Of Our Teeth, Week 1: Same New, Same Old

Welcome back MELISSA STARK?? OK THEN. Wasn't expecting that at all. Bills get the ball first. Well, this is looking easy. Gabriel Davis picking up where he left off and the Bills are on the board. Rams get a pick! FUMBLE. Rams get it. They CANNOT run the ball right now. And then Stafford throws an interception. This is gonna be one of those games, isn't it?

Field goal makes it 10-0 Bills. Rams go for it on 4th and 2 with a quick screen to Kupp and he somehow makes it.

That wasn't going to work until the line gave him a push. Henderson with the first decent run of the night for the Rams. Kupp? KUPP. How did he get his feet down?

Troy Hill undercuts Crowder and picks off Allen. Gay kicks from 58. It's GOOD. 10-10 at halftime.

The Bills are embarrassing the Rams' defense except for the turnovers. Touchdown McKenzie! That was just as easy as the game-opening drive. Wait, Chad Hall? As in one-time Eagle Chad Hall is Kelly Stafford's brother? Whoa. The Rams' pass protection has been... inconsistent. Allen opens the fourth by dropping one into Davis's pocket, beating the blitz. Diggs can't handle Allen's late jump pass. Collinsworth agrees with me that he probably could have taken it in himself. Which he does on the next play.

Stafford throws too high for Kupp and Jordan Poyer picks it! I know there's 11 minutes left but that felt damaging. And it is, as Diggs races by Ramsey, falls down, and makes the catch for the touchdown anyway. There's another interception off a batted pass. That tackle's the best play Stafford's made tonight. Too much Little Caesars, I guess. (Bills 31, Rams 10)

Signal Finder: PIT @ CIN, PHI @ DET, JAX @ WSH (end), GB @ MIN, KC @ AZ, LV @ LAC (end)

FITZPATRICK PICK SIX. Football is BACK. Harris gets stuffed at the Bengals' 2, then Freiermuth gets tangled up and can't haul it in on third down. 10-3 Steelers. Watt blows up a run, then somehow ends up with a pick on the next play. This guy Gentry on the Steelers? 6-8, 255, and can run in space? What? Touchdown Harris and it's 17-3 Steelers and the Bengals just look hung over. Burrow throws another interception! That's Four turnovers for the Bengals. Mixon breaks one on 4th and 1 and gets to the 3. NOT a touchdown for Chase, as he couldn't get both feet in. Levi Wallace is a Steeler? Bengals end up kicking a field goal. Chase with a catch on the sideline. Was he in? That's not a touchdown. Shovel pass doesn't work. 1:55 left. Burrow's pass is deflected and falls incomplete. Then Chase gets flagged for saying something and the Steelers get 15 yards. They do nothing with it but get off a good punt, at least. CHASE??? No, they say he didn't get both feet down. Watt gets off the line immediately, but can't sack Burrow, gets called for illegal hands to the face, and leaves with an injury.

Yeah, you could read his lips pretty clearly thre. Don't love that call on Fitzpatrick. Burrow finds The Other Mike Thomas but he drops it. Four seconds left. TOUCHDOWN CHASE! BACKUP long snapper on the PAT. BLOCKED!!! My God. Fitzpatrick blocked it? Unbeleivable. Steelers win the OT coin toss. McPherson MISSES on another bad snap. Eagle: "Mike Tomlin's been around a long time. I don't know if he's ever seen this." Diontae Johnson with a better catch on the sideline than Chase made in regulation. They say he's out? Oh, that's close. They look at it and that's a catch! Wow! Fourth and 4 now and the Steelers are trying a 55-yarder. CLANG off the post! Boswell's in shock.

Burrow is sacked and fumbles, but Perine saves it and manages to get it into... field goal range. The ball's spotted at midfield. Refs huddle. Steratore explains that since Burrow fumbled, and it's overtime, only he could advance it. So now it's 4th and 16 with 1:08 left and the Bengals have to punt. Now there's a clock malfunction. Trubisky throws across the field and finds Freiermuth, plus the Bengals were offside. Boswell from 53. It's GOOD! Not sure either team deserved to win but it is what it is. (Steelers 23, Bengals 20, OT)

These two teams were not so fortunate. (Colts 20, Texans 20, OT)

De'Andre Swift breaks a 51-yarder. Back-to-back false starts gives off same old Lions vibes. Hockenson stretches to get 3rd and 9. Jamal Williams bounces off the pile and scores. Welp. Lions already getting pressure with blitzes. Now the Eagles are jumpy. Hurts scrambles for 16 on 3rd and 15. Bad decision on 3rd and 5 — Smith had no chance to catch that. Eagles go on 4th and 5 from the Lions' 40 but Brown can't bring it in. An EAGLES blitz? What world is this? A.J. Brown with back-to-back catches, then he dives and picks one just off the turf. Slant to A.J. and he breaks a tackle and gets to the 5. Hurts didn't seem to know what to do on that third down play. Hurts keeps it and walks in, making Mike Trout's prediction incorrect. (He had DeVonta Smith scoring the Eagles' first touchdown.) Refs pick up a DPI flag because the pass was tipped. Hurts gets away with grounding. TOUCHDOWN SANDERS! Good for him. He somehow did not score at all last year, which is wild. Lions finally go back to the run game. Miscommunication between Goff and Hockenson leads to a Bradberry pick-six! Meanwhile, the Phillies are in a rain delay.

Big play by Amon-Ra St. Brown. Williams stopped short on third down. Two minutes! Swift goes left and scores. Hurts finds Brown deep for 54, and Brown got the last 10 of them by fighting through a tackle. Eagles get stonewalled and settle for three. 24-14 at halftime.

Touchdown Gainwell. GOFF SCRAMBLE. Touchdown St. Brown and these defenses haven't been great. Lions try a surprise onside kick but the Eagles are on it. Finally a flag after Hurts gets hit late again on a slide. That's like the sixth one. Touchdown Scott. Turns out Tracy Walker was ejected after that late hit on Hurts, but for a second personal foul after the play. Eagles challenge this Hockenson catch at the end of the third quarter. This is close. Call STANDS. Swift breaks tackles and gets down to the Eagles' 1. Touchdown Lions. And Reynolds may have had another one if he makes that catch. Cox with a big sack. Gardner-Johnson gets called for interference. Touchdown Chark. 38-35 with 3:51 left. Sanders bounces off the pile and gains 26. Scott doesn't get the first down and now what do the Eagles do? They sneak it with Hurts and I think he got it. He did! That's not good enough defense. (Eagles 38, Lions 35)

Jeez. No wonder the Bears want out.

So here's what this was: The holder tried to wipe off the spot on the field where the hold was going to be on this field goal attempt. That's against the rules. Touchdown Equanimious St. Brown, at about the same time as Amon-Ra's in Detroit. It's only getting messier out there. (Bears 19, 49ers 10)

Doug vs. Carson!

Jags jump offside and that's it. Doug hugs Carson afterwards. (Commanders 28, Jaguars 22)

Hook and ladder doesn't even get hooked. Wait, what? A flag? Lattimore decked Bryan Edwards behind the play and got caught? And now the Falcons are going to try a 63-yard field goal with no time left. BLOCKED.

Seriously. They needed one yard to win the game and they lose. (Saints 27, Falcons 26)

Easy touchdown for Jefferson. Things not starting well for Aaron Rodgers. I get the feeling he's gonna have to lean on Tonyan a lot in the early going until these new kids start picking things up. Wheel route to Aaron Jones for 22. Dillon gets caught from behind at the Vikings' 2. Turnover on downs. Now the Vikings are going all the way down the field. Jefferson denies himself a touchdown. Lot of WRs missing staying inbounds today. Someone lost Jefferson in coverage and it's 17-0 Vikings at halftime.

Jordan Hicks is a Viking? He just sacked Rodgers and forced the ball out. Jones with a big run and maybe that's what the Packers will have to do. Touchdown Dillon.

But arguably a bigger issue is the back end of the Packers' defense has looked awful all game long. No idea who that hitch was intended for. Fourth down throw is broken up. (Vikings 23, Packers 7)

We head to Glendale with the Chiefs already up 14-0 and a safety kicking off. (Nantz misidentifies Justin Reid as his brother, Eric, twice.) They show Butker injuring his foot on the kickoff after the first score.

Big run by Conner, and his touchdown gets the Cardinals back in it. Mahomes has some tape on his left wrist that it sounds like wasn't there before. Not sure it's hindering him, as he's now completed 12 straight. It won't be 13. Rookie Isiah Pacheco gets stopped and what do the Chiefs do? They go for it and Mahomes finds Edwards-Helaire for a touchdown so easy he shrugs his shoulders. Reid misses and it's 20-7. Conner fumbles but somehow recovers it himself. Butker comes back in and hits a 53-yarder! Romo: "Daniel LaRusso is gonna fight!"

Touchdown Fortson and this is starting to get out of hand. 30-7 Chiefs. Now it's 37-7. This revamped WR room isn't having any issues so far. (Chiefs 44, Cardinals 21)

He's so not good. Touchdown Adams! Then Carr throws a two-point pass right into a Chargers defender's back. Carr gets sacked. Carr gets sacked by Mack AGAIN. That's Mack's third, and that's it. (Chargers 24, Raiders 19)

Giants going for two? Saquon gets there! What is this playcalling, Titans? They could use someone who can run a deep route. WIDE LEFT! Mike Vrabel stays botching end-game situations.

(Giants 21, Titans 20)

This may be the worst rendition yet. Cowboys have the USFL MVP returning the opening kickoff. Real Rod Smart vibes. Cris sounds kinda hoarse. The Amari Cooper trade was either "pay your No. 3 receiver $20 million this season or cut him" and they were lucky the Browns had a need. Cowboys moving the ball surprisingly well in the early going.

Drive stalls and the Cowboys settle for three. Chris Godwin back! Demarcus Lawrence wrecks Fournette on third down, forcing a field goal. Julio Jones? What's he got left?

Parsons gets to Brady on third down. Succop misses left. Winfield picks off Dak! Parsons with another key stop. Field goal makes it 9-3. Not a lot going on in this game. Whoa! Maybe Julio IS back. Brady throw is high and incomplete. 12-3 Bucs at halftime. PUNT HITS THE SCOREBOARD. That's a re-kick. Cris: "I want to see if he can do it again." Bruce Arians just hanging out in a coaches' box? Devin White sacks Dak. Brady finds Evans at the Cowboys' 5. That one works. That feels damaging with the nothing the Cowboys have been able to do offensively. Donovan Wilson picks off Brady! He tried to sneak it through the middle but it didn't work. Again, this Cowboys' offense has sucked out loud tonight.

Now DAK'S on the sideline getting his hand looked at and Cooper Rush is in. Five teams have never beaten Brady: the two he's played for, the Cowboys, Vikings, and Falcons, who are 0-10 against him. And the Cowboys fall to 0-7. Jerry's saying Dak needs surgery. That's bad. (Buccaneers 19, Cowboys 3)

This is going to take some getting used to. I'm still on record believing the Seahawks kept the wrong guys.

Seriously? Even we cheered McNabb when he came back. Broncos send everyone, don't get Geno, and he finds Will Dissly for the easiest touchdown he'll ever score. Russ enters on offense to mostly boos. Who's Andrew Beck? He's killing it right now. Every Broncos play but one has gone to the right so far. Field goal is good. Geno was a Charger? In 2019? No. That's not true. Broncos defense getting embarrassed so far. Geno sneaks it on 4th and short from the Broncos' 6 and I'm not sure he got there. Neither is Troy. Chains! He's short! Broncos take over unless Carroll challenges, which would not be wise. He doesn't. Punt is almost blocked. Buck and Aikman correctly hate this taunting call. The Broncos haven't thrown a pass to a wide receiver yet. WELL THAT JUST CHANGED. Touchdown Jeudy! The Seahawks strike back with a touchdown to... Colby Parkinson? OK then. Diggs drops an interception in the end zone. Flat-out drops. Aikman's wondering how and why Wilson made that throw.

Sack! 17-13 Seahawks at halftime after a McManus field goal. Broncos on the move again. Wilson's played well. Fourth and goal from the one. They give it to Gordon and... he doesn't make it! He fumbles at the end and the Seahawks take over at their own 10. Good straight-up leaping catch by Metcalf, But then he fumbles on the next play and the Broncos recover. That's the first good thing they've done all night. Wilson's been off-target a couple times on this drive, but he's saved by pass interference. Now Williams fumbles at the 3 and the Seahawks recover in the end zone!

They can't do anything and the Broncos get it back. Wilson picking apart the Seahawks' defense. Three refs discuss this Tomlinson catch and rule that he was out of bounds. Aikman: "I wonder who broke the tie." False start? Ugh. Two more passes fall incomplete and the Broncos have to kick. 6:08 left. Seahawks go three and out. That's a... generous spot. First down Broncos but Carroll challenges. Call STANDS. I get challenging it, but spot challenges fail 99.99% of the time. Seahawks blow up a screen. Incomplete pass? What? Oh, Wilson pump-faked and the ball slipped out of his hands. That wasn't on purpose. Why aren't they calling time out? They finally do with 20 seconds left. Brutal. They're trying a field goal from here? 64 yards? What? That wasn't close. That's on the coach, right?

By The Pigskin Of Our Teeth: Wrap Party

Bengals win the toss and defer.

That's not a good sign. Hey, new graphics! Darrell Henderson's first carry in several weeks gets eaten up. The Bengals take over and the same thing happens. But they elect to go for it from midfield. Pass is broken up. Pass? Come on, man.

That movie's secretly terrible and is never coming out, is it? Stafford finds Kupp for 20 yards. Touchdown Beckham! That was defended well but a great throw from Stafford made it possible.

These two punters are lifers, man. Good job by Chase to not wait until the third quarter to make a big play like he did two weeks ago in the AFC title game.

Three straight incompletions lead to a field goal. Nice work, guys. The Rams offensive players are doing work after the catch. Touchdown Kupp! There's some chaos on the extra point with a dropped hold and a desperation pass that gets intercepted. Bengals run around for a few seconds but nothing comes of it. 13-3, which was the score in the Rams' last Super Bowl, which they lost. Mixon's been the Bengals' best player on this drive. And possibly so far in this game. And then he does THAT. HALFBACK PASS. TOUCHDOWN HIGGINS. (The L.A. Rams' touchdown in Super Bowl 13 was also thrown by a running back.)

Beckham grabs his knee and goes down. Stafford throws deep and is intercepted in the end zone at the two-minute warning. There was a taunting penalty afterwards because someone came off the Bengals' bench. Later replays show it was Vernon Hargreaves, who's kind of an idiot anyway and I'm surprised to learn is still in the league.

Is that the first time we've seen Robert Iler since the show ended? Celebrity roll call! LeBron, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, and Emmitt Smith.

So was that Salesforce ad supposed to be McConaughey returning from Interstellar?

Rams throw deep on 3rd and 1 but it's off target. Half ends without incident. This'll be interesting. Poor Maria Taylor's stuck in the crowd. We've already seen Mary tonight (in a mammogram commercial, of all things). This looks like it's on film. We open with Dre and Snoop doing "The Next Episode", paying off that bet. Second is "California Love." SURPRISE 50 APPEARANCE??

He does most of "In Da Club". Then we flip back up to the roof and Mary.

"Family Affair" into "No More Drama." This bit with the dudes in the cardboard boxes looks like something out of a Jordan Peele movie. Oh, this is Kendrick's spot? I didn't recognize him. Eminem does his hook for "Forgot About Dre" (with "motherfucker" pointedly being muted) before "Lose Yourself" starts. He's got a live band OH WAIT THAT'S ANDERSON .PAAK'S BAND with .Paak on drums.

"Still DRE" to close. The Bengals kicker was out there for the whole show! After the game: MORE OLYMPICS.

Ramsey falls down and Higgins is wide open! 75 yard touchdown! Bengals take the lead immediately.

Oh, he got face masked and it wasn't called (or it was just missed). First Rams pass is intercepted! That probably would have been to Beckham if he wasn't hurt. Now we got a gathering after shoving Burrow out of bounds. That wasn't late at all. Bengals go for it on 4th and 1 and Burrow takes it himself. Donald sacks Burrow on 3rd and 3. The Rams can't run the ball on this defense. Double reverse pass? Kupp throws it way too high. Gay hits from 41.

Didn't recognize clean-shaven Seth Rogen. Stafford gets sacked, then is seen on a training table during this Bengals series. Now Burrow gets taken down inside his own 5 by Von Miller. Considering the way this quarter started, the Rams are fortunate to only be down four at the end of it. Burrow finds Boyd on the run for a first down. Burrow gets sacked on third down and limps off afterwards. Then the Bengals get flagged for a personal foul after the play.

Oh, there it is. A Bengals lineman slapped Leonard Floyd. Stop running the ball, Rams. It's not working. Stafford throws too high for Skowronek.

It's one thing to get cowed in your first Super Bowl with Bill Belichick on the other sideline. But this is McVay's second dance, and he's going up against a guy who's been carried here by his players. Rams knock Mixon back for a three-yard loss on a swing pass. Boyd with a bad drop on 3rd and 9. That's his first drop of the year?? 6:13 left. Akers can't get a 3rd and 1 from his own 30.

Jet sweep to Kupp and he picks it up. That may have been the call Brandt was waiting for. Stafford finds Kupp over the middle for 22. Did he just throw that early because the coverage sealed the spot off? Akers with his first decent run of the night. Rams are inside the 10 with 1:55 left.

Stafford overthrows Jefferson. You know who the Rams really miss down here? Tyler Higbee. Another incompletion on second down. Third down pass is knocked down, but there's a flag. They get the Bengals for holding. Hmmm. His hand's clearly on Kupp. Rams get new downs. Touchdown Kupp, who gets blasted in the end zone. There's a flag back at the 11. Offsetting penalties! Then they flag Apple for DPI.

Sneak goes nowhere. Bengals call time out with 1:29 left. KUPP. TOUCHDOWN. Point after is good.

Ryne Sandberg came up a lot in the replies to this, as did Mark Rypien. The Rams scoring does put their best unit back on the field, though. (Well, except for Ramsey, who's been a little overrated ever since he joined the Rams.) Bengals with a last shot. Chase beats Ramsey again for 17. Boyd gets 9. They run it with Perine on third down and he gets stopped short. Stuff like that is why I don't believe in Zac Taylor. Mixon has to be on the field. Bengals use another time out with 43 seconds left. Burrow drops back but Donald wraps him up and spins him into an incompletion!

He points to his ring finger afterwards. Savor it, big man. Happy for Beckham, too. I"m also laughing like a hyena at this dude:

Seriously, DeSean pouted his way out of a ring because he wasn't getting enough touches. LOL. McVay gets doused in blue Gatorade, paying off THAT bet. Wait, Michele's retiring? And that brings up the even bigger elephant in the booth. Kupp's the MVP.

Hold up, we're just leaving? We're really not going to get a final wrap-up from Al and Cris? That's bizarre. Kinda like this season. (Rams 23, Bengals 20)

FINAL RANKINGS:
TOP 4:
1. L.A. Rams (12-5) — Jumped through their window
2. Cincinnati (10-7) — Element of surprise is gone
3. Kansas City (12-5) — Live by the flip, die by the flip
4. Buffalo (11-6) — What could have been

BOTTOM 4:
29. N.Y. Jets (4-13) — It's what we expected, right?
30. N.Y. Giants (4-13) — Need to be honest with themselves
31. Detroit (3-13-1) — Maybe there's potential here?
32. Jacksonville (3-14) — Let's hope they didn't hire 2020 Pederson

By The Pigskin Of Our Teeth: Reversed Gears

Bengals get the opening kickoff. They go three and out. Good start. Chiefs feeding McKinnon early again.

Chiefs challenge this spot... and win? Sure, OK, fine.

Bengals offering no resistance. Mahomes throws it SIDEARM to Hill for a touchdown. That's just not right. The Bengals are being even more workmanlike on this second drive. It's... actually working? But then they get inside the Chiefs' 15 and throw three straight incomplete passes, settling for a field goal. Mahomes with a deep ball to Hardman for 44 yards. McKinnon is left by himself and he gets 11 on 3rd and 3. Mahomes scrambles again, gets flushed out of the pocket, and somehow finds Kelce for a touchdown.

Not sure running the ball with Mixon is the best choice of action for the Bengals down 14-3. Hardman maybe could have caught that if he'd taken a better angle. But the Bengals were offsides. Edwards-Helaire with a nice pickup. Romo: "How long until you get rid of the punter?" Nantz says, "It's soon." Kelce makes a catch and weaves through traffic inside the 5. Mahomes flicks one to Hardman, who almost dropped it but didn't and walks into the end zone. Bengals pick up a safety blitz and Burrow finds Higgins for a first down. Two minute warning. Mixon run gets stuffed. Why are you calling that? Then Samaje Perine breaks a tackle and outruns two defenders and scores. 41 yards! Hill loses a second stutter-stepping deciding whether to go out of bounds or try to get more yards. Mahomes finds Kelce, then Pringle inside the 20. Time out with 13 seconds left.

DPI in the end zone on Apple, who's having a bad day. Chiefs are at the 1 with nine seconds. They get the second half kickoff, too? Fuck. This could be over in minutes. Mahomes throws it into the turf. Five seconds. Offense stays out. Mahomes throws... a screen? Hill doesn't make it! 21-10 Chiefs at halftime. What was THAT? Walker Hayes is playing halftime and he's drowning out the NFL Today crew, who are on the field doing halftime. That's a logistical failure on someone's part.

Also, yes, this song ("Fancy Like") absolutely sucks and can burn in hell. Chiefs get the ball to start the third quarter. Let's see if they can get the other side of this. Pass to Hill is broken up. Chiefs are punting. Now it's interesting.

Burrow to Higgins for 44. Then he tries to thread the needle for Sample but that doesn't work. Too high for Higgins and the Bengals punt. Hardman gets bumped on the return but doesn't draw a flag. Romo's not buying the contact, either. Hill gets hit out of bounds and that goes uncalled. This drive stalls and the Chiefs punt again. Finally the Bengals find Chase.

First and goal! Ingram sacks Burrow. Then he knocks down a screen on second down. Third down quick pass to Perine goes nowhere. McPherson hits from 31. Replay of the third down play where Romo sees that Perine should have gone left, where his blockers were. BIG MAN INTERCEPTION! Mahomes has to throw that ball higher. Fade to Chase for a touchdown! They go for two and get it! Mahomes gets sacked on third down. Sneed picks off Burrow! But the Chiefs can't do anything with that, either. This offense has died. Burrow gets away from Chris Jones — twice — and runs for a first down.

Another scramble on third down. Higgins! Chiefs force a 52-yard attempt. It's GOOD. Bengals lead with 6:04 left. Mahomes finds Kelce open in the middle of the field on 3rd and 1 for 18. Two minutes. Mahomes runs for 4 and gets pushed out of bounds. He runs around for about 10 seconds and ends up getting three yards after the spot. And that was with Hendrickson trying to knock the ball out of his hands. Was no one open?

Quick pitch to Kelce and he gets the first down. Bengals have to call time with 1:30 left. Romo mentions the scenario that says the Bengals should let the Chiefs score. Mahomes gets sacked again. Not great. Third and goal at the 9. Again, Mahomes doesn't seem to have anywhere to throw. He's sacked and fumbles, but guard Joe Thuney falls on it to save the game, at least for the moment.

Butker on for a 49-yarder with two seconds left. Bengals come after it. It's GOOD!

Chiefs win the toss and the crowd ERUPTS. That's the loudest cheer of this game. Apple jumps in front of Robinson but doesn't get the interception. Then Mahomes throws deep and he does get picked off! Bates knocks the ball out of Hill's hands and into Von Bell's.

Burrow finds Higgins over the middle for a first down and they're in range. Mixon gets seven. Mixon to the 12! Nantz and Romo wonder if the Bengals should just kick it now. Romo jokes about dropping the snap on an early field goal attempt but Nantz doesn't get it. McPherson on for 31. It's GOOD!!! Holy cow.

There was a path for the Bengals, but I figured it would have to be "Joe Burrow throws for 450-plus yards", not "Patrick Mahomes plays like absolute garbage in the second half." (Bengals 27, Chiefs 24, OT)

Interception! K'Waun Williams got a hand on the ball and Ward ends up with it. After the commercial, we se that Warner hit Stafford in the back of the head during the return, and that should have been a flag.

49ers should be embarrassed allowing Stafford to pick up that first down on the ground. Touchdown Kupp. That was too easy.

Garoppolo finds Aiyuk on the sideline but he can't stay inbounds. Screen to Deebo, who makes a couple of moves and just keeps going. He's shoved out at the goal line and it's called a touchdown. Beckham stretches out to save a third down throw. Rare drop from Kupp. Kupp with a sliding catch. Deep ball goes off Skowronek's hands. 49ers got lucky there as both he and Kupp were uncovered.

Buck circles Jarrett Stoll with his telestrator. He does NOT mention that he's Erin's husband. Gay misses wide right from 54. Did that even have the distance? Nick Scott lights up Deebo. Whoa. They pick up the flag because that hit wasn't late. He's back in two plays later. Gould gives the 49ers the lead to end the half. Why is Jalen Ramsey jawing with him? Come on, man. Rams go for it on 4th and short. Not a good sneak by Stafford. They're gonna measure. NOPE. McVay challenges and loses. Aiyuk with a big catch over the middle. Jennings elevates and fights through a tackle for another first down. The 49ers have attacked Troy Reeder in every game this season and found success in all three. Touchdown Kittle! That route can't be defended. Magic Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio among the other celebrities here. Rams blow a second time out. Big play from Blanton, who's Higbee's backup. Kupp beats Williams for a touchdown. Juszczyk gets stopped on 3rd and 2. McVay challenges, claiming that he also fumbled. I don't know about this one, either.

Call STANDS and the Rams are out of time outs with 10 minutes left. Then the 49ers take a delay of game penalty on 4th and 2? What are these people doing? Then they PUNT. What?

Tartt drops an interception on an off-target long ball by Stafford. Ward hits Beckham in the helmet, adding 15 yards to a 30-yard catch. Kupp follows his blocks and gets a first down. Gay hits from 40 and we're tied at 17. Garoppolo gets away with another one. That should have been picked. 49ers going backwards. Aikman calls that drive "abysmal." Another catch by Blanton, who's having a game. You can't tackle Kupp by his jersey, my guy. Rams at the 49ers' 12. Bosa sacks Stafford from the ground. Take a shot! Or don't. Gay puts the Rams back in front with 1:46 left. Donald's all over Garoppolo, who just throws it out of there, and it gets picked off!

Is that how the Jimmy G era in San Francisco ends? Stafford, McVay and Andrew Whitworth embrace on the field. It was a year ago today that the Rams announced the trade for Stafford.

The Rams are going home... to be the road team. (Rams 20, 49ers 17)
